Adonis pyrenaica Hook.f. & Thoms.
Perennial with a long vertical rootstock. Stems 12-25 cm high, up to 40 cm after flowering, erect, simple. Leaves confined to the upper part, reddish at base with short granules, lower leaves with a long petiole, the upper sessile, tripinnatifid, lobes linear-lanceolate to ovate-rhombic, acuminate, sparsely hairy beneath Wh ile young. Flowers bright yellow, single on a pubescent peduncle. Sepals 6-8, 12-15 mm, elliptical, lilac, hairy, dentate, apex obtuse. Petals 16-24, 25-27 x 5.8 mm, oblanceolate, obtuse. Achenes arranged in a globose head, with a long involute beak, 5-7 mm long.

Kashmir: B-8 Masjid Gali, 12,000', R.R. & I.D. Stewart (RAW), above Gulmarg, R.R. Stewart 13566 (RAW). Distribution: Kashmir to W. Tibet and Tien-Shan.
Grows in large clumps on alpine meadows from 3000-4300 m.
