Annual terrestrial caespitose plants or under-water and spreading. All leaves divided with a globoid lamina and semi-rigid divergent capillary segments. Stipules adnate to petiole for about 2/3rd of their length. Petiole up to 20 mm. Peduncle 3.5-5 mm long, ovate obovate, nectar pit lunate. Stamens 10-25. Receptacle hairy, with 60-90 very small, elongate in fruit, glabrous or basally slightly hairy carpels. Style lateral to subterminal. Mature achenes less than 1 mm.
Type: Described from Switzerland, Lagger s.n. (lso.K!).

Africa but probably not reaching N. America.
Often confused with Batrachium trichophyllum from which it differs by the characters mentioned in the key.
