Type: Nepal, Wallich 624 (G-DC; isotypes G, K, E).  
Distribution: Himalaya from Swat eastward to Kashmir, Assam, S. Tibet.  
The type variety differs from var. cashmeriana in the weaker ± habit, the often broader (ovate to elliptic) leaves and the blunt calyx lobes. The plants are often glandular sticky.
