Anabasis wakhanica Paulsen in Vidensk. Meddel. Dansk. Naturhist. Fören. Kjöbenh. 201. 1903; Arthrophytum lindbergii Aellen in Årb. Univ. Berg. 1963, Math.-Nat. Fl. Per.: July-August.

Type.: (Pamir Vakhanskiy) Wakhan, Langarkisht, 3000 m, 10.9.1898, O. Paulsen 1354 (C).

Distribution: Tibet and Kashmir.

Closely related to H. griffithii subsp. griffithii, but differs on the basis of a dwarf sturdier habit. It is common in Chitral, Gilgit and Baltistan.

Haloxylon thomsonii Bunge ex Boiss., described from Tibet, is a doubtful species. Some records of it from Chitral (e.g. R.R.Stewart, l.c. 217) are based on misidentifications of H. griffithii subsp. wakhanicum. Further gatherings from Tibet are necessary to assess its status and its relationship with H. griffithii.
