Leaves 4.5-17 x 4-13 cm; petiole 1.5-6 cm long. Both leaf surfaces glabrous; apex rounded.
Fl.Per.: March-July.
Type : Nepal, Kathmandu, E. Gardner (holo. K).
Distribution: Throughout temperate Himalayas (from Kashmir to Bhutan), Assam, E. Afghanistan.
“Rock begonia” is common on shady rocks, in Swat and Kashmir areas from 2000-3500 m. Medicinally used in fevers, diarrhoea and applied to bruises and boils. The roots contain gallic and tannic acid.
