Cercis siliquastrum Linn., Sp. Pl. 374. 1753. Parker, For. Fl. Punj. ed. 3. 183. 1956.
A deciduous shrub or tree, up to 13 m tall. Leaves simple, reniform, up to 13 cm in diameter, often broader than long, glabrous, 7-nerved at the base. Flowers 3-6 in each cluster, on the old branches, purplish rose, c. 1.2-1.5 cm long. Pod c. 7.5-9.5 cm long, c. 1.7-1.8 cm broad.
Distribution: Indigenous to S. Europe, planted as an ornamental tree in northern parts of W. Pakistan.
Judas tree is a beautiful ornamental tree.
