    Erect perennial. Stem up to 50 cm, densely white-villous, simple, thick. Radical and cauline leaves similar, the radical congested and with a long attenuate the cauline smaller in size and with a sessile base. Leaves 20-90 x 15-25 mm, to lanceolate or oblanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, densely villous, apex. Bracts similar to cauline leaves. Inflorescence a lax panicle. Flowers 1-2, showy. Calyx 18-20 mm, densely white-villous, contracted at the mouth; c. 7 mm, acuminate; veins prominent, protruding and marginate at apex. scales long, acute. Carpophore 1.5-2 mm, glabrous. Capsule included.

    Type: Described from Italy, Hb. Linn. 601/2 (LINN).

    Distribution: S. & C. Europe, s. Russia, N. W. Africa, N. Iran, Turkestan and Kashmir.

    Not common in Pakistan and only collected from the Neelam vy., common further east up to 2440 m.
