Dioecious, up to 50 cm tall, pubescent undershrub, sparingly covered with stinging hairs. Leaves with 0.4-2.0 cm long petiole; lamina ovate or broadly ovatesubrotundate, 1-4.5 cm long, 1-2.5 cm broad, subcordate-truncate at the base, margin serrate, apex acute; stipules ovate-oblong, connate, 4-6 mm long. Panicle of cymes axillary, longer than petiole. Flowers greenish-purple. Sepals orbicular, not armed hispid, enlarged in fruit. Achenes oblong-ovate, c. 2 mm long.

Type: Described from Tibet.
Distribution: Pakistan, India, Tibet from 3000-6000 m in the Himalayas.
The tender tips are eaten as vegetable.
