Large tree, branches glabrous. Leaf 10-15 cm long; leaflets 3-7, c. 3.7-6.5 cm long, broadly elliptic, orbicular or elliptic-obovate, obtuse, rarely emarginate, glabrous; petiolule long. Inflorescence an axillary panicle. Pedicel as long as the calyx. Calyx teeth obtuse, shorter than the cup. Corolla whitish, almost twice as long as the cup. Stamens 9. Fruit oblong-lanceolate, 1-4-seeded.
Fl.Per.: March-May.
Distribution: Native of India, Nepal, Sikkim; introduced in some parts of the Punjab.
The black heart wood with purple streaks is much valued for furniture. The foliage is used as fodder.
