Lychnis pilosa (Edgew.) Edgew.Melandrium pilosum Edgew.
A gynodioecious species, similar to S. India Roxb. But stem covered with long glandular hairs above; bracts ovate to ovate lanceolate with dense long hairs; calyx of hermaphrodite flowers 12-14 mm-of female flowers 8-10 mm, carpophore short; seeds with conical tubercles at the back.
Fl. Per.: May-June.
Holotype: Himalaya, Garhwal, Musapane, 4000-4300 m, Edgeworth 162 (K); (iso. OXF).
Distribution: Temperate Himalaya from Hazara eastward to Kashmir & Nepal.
Reported also from Pir Panjal range (J.L. Stewart 737, K). R.R. Stewart, (l.c.) suggests it could be S. indica.
