A spiny shrub 1.5-2.5 m tall, glabrous. Leaves 20-50 x 4-17 mm oblong, oblanceolate to elliptic-oblong, elliptic-lanceolate or lanceolate or narrowly so, obtuse to subacute, cuneate. Flowers axillary, in fascicles of 2-6, pale violet to violet. Pedicel 5-7 mm, up to 24 mm in fruit, glabrous, slender. Calyx ± cupuliform, lobes irregular, acute or obtuse, minutely pubescent. Corolla tube 4-5 mm long, infundibuliform, glabrous; lobes c. 1/3rd tube length, ciliate. Stamens exserted. Filaments glabrous at the base. Berries 5-6 mm broad, globose, red. Seeds reniform, c. 2 mm long, minutely reticulate-foveolate, brown.
