    Branched spiny tree, c. 3 m tall. Leaves 12 x 6 cm, serrulate in the upper half, acute. Flowers 1-5, white, perfect and staminate. Petals reflexed. Stamens c. 35. Fruit subglobose, c. 6.5 cm in diameter, rind, pale yellow to green, smooth to slightly rough with spherical oil glands. Pulp sweetish to slightly acidic.

    Type: Described from Europe.

    Cultivated in the plains of Punjab, Peshawar Valley and Sind. Sweet lime is used as a coolant in malarial fever and jaundice.
