Platytaenia multicaule E. Nasir, sp. nov.

Herba perennis ad 70 cm alts, pubescens, multicaulis. Folia plerumque radicalia, petiolata, 10-20 cm longa, pinnata; pinnae ovatae, palmatae. Involu- crum e bracteis 4-5 linearibus pubescentibus compositum; involucellum simile. Dentes calycis triangulares. Petala pubescentia. Stylopodium depressum; ova¬rium pubescens. Fructus ellipticus, 5-6 x 3-4 mm costis lateralibus alatis, crassis; valleculae univittatae; commissura 2-vittata; pagina commissurae plana.

Plants up to 70 cm tall, pubescent. Root long tap root, c. 2 cm thick in older plants. Stems many from the base, dichotomously branched. Leaves mostly basal, petiolate, 10-20, I-(2)-pinnate; pinnae 3-4 pairs, ovate, palmately divided, coria¬ceous; scabrous to puberulous; petiolule I-2 cm long. Involucre of 4-5 linear bracts, pubescent. Rays 2-6, 2-6 cm long. Involucel similar to involucre. Flower pedicels 4-7 mm long. Calyx teeth minute, triangular. Petals pubescent on the outsides. Stylopodium depressed; styles 1-1.5 mm long; ovary pubescent. Fruit elliptic, 5-6 mm long, 3-4 mm broad; lateral ridges winged, thickened; furrows 1-vittate; commissure 2-vittate; vittae extending to the base of the fruit. Inner seed face plane.

Fl. & Frt. Per.: June to September.

Type: Baluchistan, Ziarat, R.R. Stewart 629 (holo.—RAW).

This taxon has been collected from the type locality only. It differs from P. lasiocarpa in the shape, the texture and the pubescence of the leaflets, few rays and narrower fruit at the base.
