Calliandra houstonii (L’Herit.) Benth.Gleditsia inermis Linn.Mimosa houstonii L’Herit.
Shrubs, c.1.8-2.5 m. tall, branches densely covered with brown spreading hairs. Leaves bipinnately compound. Rachis 9-13 cm long, densely covered with brown hairs. Generally 10-11 pairs of lateral pinnae, c. 4-10 cm long. Leaflets many paired, gradually decreasing in size towards the tip and base, middle ones c. 7-8 mm long, c. 1.0-1.2 mm broad, tip acute, pointing upwards, lower half dilated at the base, glabrous above, hairy below, hairs white, spreading. Inflorescence a raceme of axillary heads. Flowers sessile. Calyx 5 lobed, cup-shaped, c.4 mm long, densely covered by dark brown hairs. Petals 5, free, c.7-8 mm long. Stamens long exserted, dark pink. Pod strap-shaped.
Fl. Per. July-September.
Distribution: Native of Mexico, cultivated in Botanical Garden, Lahore.
