Habitu valde similis Papaver hybridi L. sed plantis glabris ad apicem pedunculi papillosi vel subpapillosi, capsulis brevis et glabris vel obscure papillosis, oblongis, lobis foliis tenuis brevis. A Papaver tenuifolia Boiss. sed caulis longis foliatis.

Fl.Per. April.

Type: C-7 Campbellpore, in grain fields, fls. very dark red, 2.4.1949, R.R. Stewart s.n. (RAW).

Distribution: Known from the type gathering only.

An interesting species, probably a hybrid, apparently looking like Papaver hybridum L. and flower arrangement like those in Papaver pavoninum Fisch. & Mey., but glabrous and only papillose on the peduncles, fruits (immature) glabrous or obscurely papillose very small. Also looks like Papaver tenuifolium Boiss., but stem elongated, leafy and peduncles not subscapose.
