    An annual up to 1 m tall. Stem striate pilose. Leaves lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, 3-8.5 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm broad, ciliate, sparsely pilose. Capitula 0.9(-1.4) cm broad. Involucral bracts 6(-8) mm, broadly ovate, acuminate. Receptacular bracts 8-9 mm long, narrower. Calyx cupular, stipitate, pubescent, limb setose. Involucel 4.5-5 mm long, grooved, setose-glabrescent.

    Fl.Per.: April-May.

    Type: Described from Syria.

    Distribution: Mediterranean region, C. Asia, Caucasus, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

    Found usually as a weed in fields and waste places from 1000-2000 m. Considered a noxious weed in Iraq. According to Kitamura our form is ssp. turanica Bobr.
