    Prostrate herb, many radiating branches from the base, stem densely pubescent, hairs white, appressed. Leaf imparipinnately compound, petiole c. 5-20 mm long, white pubescent, rachis c. 10-20 mm long, pubescent, leaflets 11-17, c. 2-5 mm long, oblong, obtuse, glabrous above, pubescent below, petiolule less than 1 mm long; stipules c. 1-2 mm long. Inflorescence an axillary pedunculate raceme, peduncle c. 2.0-6.0 cm long, pubescent. Bracts c. 1 mm long, pubescent. Pedicel c. 1 mm long. Calyx c. 4 mm long, pubescent, teeth c. 2.5 mm long. Corolla whitish blue. Vexillum c. 6.5-7 mm long. Keel c. 6.5 mm long. Wing smaller. Fruit c. 7-9 mm long, falcate, 6-8-seeded, white pubescent; stipe c. 1.0-1.5 mm long.

    Fl.Per.: June-September.

    Holotype: Himalaya, Hoffmeister (B-destroyed).

    Distribution: Pakistan (Punjab, N.W.F. Province, Baluchistan); Afghanistan.

    Astragalus subumbellatus sensu Baker (Fl.Brit.Ind.2:119.1876) is different from the present species. For further, discussion see Ali (l.c. 1958).
