Astragalus orthocarpus Boiss., Diagn.Pl.Or.Nov.ser. 1(9):68. 1849. Boiss.,Fl.Or.2:276.1872; Ali in Biologia 7:34.1961.

Perennial, root woody. Stem branched from the base, c. 60 cm or less tall, villous at the base, pubescent above. Leaf imparipinnately compound, petiole up to 4.5 cm long, minutely pubescent, hairs appressed, rachis c. 4.3-12.0 cm long, pubescent, hairs appressed. Leaflets c. 35-57, c. 4-6 mm long, c. 2.5-5.0 mm broad, ovate to elliptic, mostly conduplicate, entire, retuse, pubescent below, glabrous above; petiolule less than 1 mm long, pubescent; stipules lateral, c. 4 mm long, ciliate at the margins. Inflorescence with 1-3 flowers on 1-2 mm long peduncle in the axil of the leaf; bracts c. 2 mm long, pubescent; pedicel c. 2-3 mm long, pubescent. Calyx c. 10-11 mm long, pubescent, hairs long, spreading, teeth c. 5-6 mm long. Vexillum c. 13-14 mm long. Fruit c. 10-11 mm long (excluding an apical mucro), c. 4 mm broad, villous, hairs spreading.
