Astragalus zarghumensis Rech.f. in Biol.Skr.Dan.Vid.Selsk. 9(3): 131. 1957.

Perennial herb. Stem erect, c. 25-40 cm long, appressed-pilose to glabrescent. Leaf imparipinnately compound, c. 20 cm long, leaflets c. 31-37 , c. 5-10 mm long, c. 3-5 mm broad, oblong to obovate-lanceolate, entire, tip rotund, glabrous above, appressly white pilose below; stipules c. 1 cm long. Inflorescence a sessile, axillary raceme. Bracts linear, villous. Calyx c. 13 mm long, pubescent, hairs long, white; teeth c. 8-9 mm long. Corolla yellow. Vexillum c. 15 mm long. Wing. c. 13 mm long. Keel c. 11.5 mm long, c. 4.5 mm broad. Ovary sericeous, style glabrous. Fruit not seen.

Holotype: Baluchistan, Zarghum, 7000 ft., 17.5.1894, Monro (DD).

Distribution: Baluchistan.

Rechinger f. (l.c.) accepted this species in the section Alopecias of the sub-genus Calycophysa. I think it is better to accommodate it in the section Chronopus of the subgenus Astragalus. Kitamura (Fl. Afgh.209.1960) has done likewise for the related Astragalus albovillosus Kit.
