    Plants 3-17 cm tall. Leaves lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 2-4 cm X 2.5-5 mm, base often toothed. Bracts ovate to lanceolate, 2-4 mm long. Calyx obliquely truncate, as long as or longer than the fruit, margin serrulate. Achene c. 1.5 mm long, ovoid, pubescent; sterile locule pair reduced.

    Fl.Per.: March-April.

    Type: Tauria, Steven (H).

    Distribution: Iran, Turkey, Palestine, USSR and Pakistan.

    Common in spring. Often found as a weed in cultivated fields up to 1500 m.
