Plants from 5 12(-20) cm tall, with the aerial stem much reduced or absent. Rhizome well developed, branched. Leaves basal, 5(-7) angled, orbicular to ± reniform 9-14 x 15-24 mm, pubescent, segments obovate-cuneate. Bracts similar stipules, but smaller (up to 3 mm long) and narrower. Sepals 6-10 mm long, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, glandular, apiculate, margin white. Petals 14-16 mm long, obovate-cuneate. bluish-violet, base dense ciliate. Fruit not seen.

Type: In alpibus turkestanicis, 6-11,000' (LE).
Distribution: E. & NE. Afghanistan. Upper Chitral (Pakistan) and Soviet C. Asia.
Description based on plant material loaned from Edinburgh (no. 9559, E). Schönbeck-Temesy (1970) records a Bowes Lyon gathering (coll. no. 984) from Yarkhun (Upper Chitral), which I have not seen.
