Heliotropium alii bears resemblance to Heliotropium dasycarpum Bunge in the internally glabrous corolla with lanceolate inflexed lobes, but differs in the annual habit, longer petioles and obtuse calyx lobes. There is some resemblance of Heliotropium alii with two ex Pakistani species-namely, Heliotropium mamamense Bunge and Heliotropium mesinanum Bunge; from the former Heliotropium alii differs in being pubescent, obtuse calyx lobes, smaller corolla and obtuse anthers; from the latter, it differs in the ± ascending habit, obtuse calyx lobes and corolla limb which is only slightly shorter than the tube.
