Perennial rhizomatous herb with well-developed rhizome. Shoots leafy, bearing scopes upto 13 cm tall, covered with short oppressed or with subappressed longer hairs. Basal leaves petiolate; petiole variable in length, sometimes shorter than lamina, (including petiole), 20-90 x 4-10 mm, lanceolate, oblanceolate to oblong, covered on both surfaces, sometimes densely so with oppressed to suberect hairs: cauline leaves lanceolate, smaller. Calyx 5-partite, 3.5-4 mm long, lobes linear lanceolate with short suberect hairs. Corolla blue or darker shades of it; tube 9-12 mm long, lobes 3-4 mm long, narrow oblong, erect. Throat scales broader than long, puberulous, tip slightly bibbed. Anthers present, slightly below the scales or exceeding them, oblong, c. 1.5 mm long. Filaments 0.5 mm long; base broad. Style 9-11 mm long, slender. Nutlets ovoid, 2-3 mm long, angled.
A polymorphic species. The following 4 varieties can be recognised from Pakistan.
