A weak decumbent perennial, sparse to densely pubescent. Cauline leaves narrow. oblong to oblanceolate, hairy, with hairs of unequal size-some arising from tuberculate base. Nutlets 2-2.5 x 1.5 mm, minutely hairy on both surfaces. Appendages up to 0.6 mm long, bases free or slightly united.

Type: Chango in Kunawar, Coll. Ignot (K, P).
Distribution: Gilgit, Kashmir, Ladak.
Closely related to var. fruticulosum but differing in the sessile leaves with unequal hairs and larger nutlets. A form of this taxon with larger glabrous fruits and appendages united at base (A. spathulatum var. thomsonii (C.B. Clarke) Kazmi, l.c.) occurs in W. Tibet and Ladak.
