  • Euphorbia isthmia V. Taeckh

    Very like Euphorbia caeladenia, but differing from it by the annual habit, in having all the leaves linear and irregularly sharply denticulate, and in having the seeds obovoid-subglobose, 3 x 2 x 2 mm, with a prominent narrowly conical caruncle 2.5-3 mm long.

    Fl. & Fr. Per.: not recorded for Baluchistan, but further west from March to May.

    Holotype: USSR, Nakhichevan [Nachitshevan] ASSR, Nakhichevan, 13 May 1923, Grossheim s.n. (LE).

    Habitat details not recorded for Baluchistan, but further west it occurs in deserts, on sandy gravel and on loess-banks in dry river-beds from sea-level up to 2000'/600 in; Distribution: Egypt. Sinai, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, S. U.S.S.R. To be expected in Iran.

    The disjunct distribution of this species may reflect lack of collecting in the right localities during a short season.
