?Euphorbia cashmeriana RoyleEuphorbia consanguinea KlotzschEuphorbia pilosa var cognata (Klotzsch & Garcke) Hook. f.Tithymalus cognatus Klotzsch & Garcke
Very like Euphorbia carnigera but plant more generally pilose, leaves quite entire and fruits only sparingly covered with shortly cylindrical processes.
Holotype: ‘Himalaya’, W. Hoffmeister s.n. (B).
Distribution: Afghanistan, Pakistan (Chitral, Waziristan). 9500'/2900 m.
Euphorbia cognate may really only represent a local variant of the much more wide-spread Euphorbia cornigem. Specimens cited under the latter include intermediates between the two. Typical Euphorbia pilosa is a Siberian and Mongolian plant, and, although listed by Stewart (Ann. Cat. Vasc. Pl. W. Pak. & Kashm. 451. 1972), it does not occur in Pakistan.
