  • Silene persica var. angiostoma (Fenzl) Boiss.

    Stems 15-30 cm, erect and ascending, from a short woody stock, retrorsely pubescent, with eglandular hairs. Leaves 11-20 x 4-5 mm, oblanceolate to obovate; acute at apex, sparsely pubescent. Flowers 1-2. Bracts silimar to cauline leaves. Pedicel 7-8 mm, with dense eglandular hairs. Calyx 13-23 mm, cylindrical-clavate and glandular in fruit, clavate and slightly constricted below the capsule; pubescent with very few glandular hairs; teeth 1.5-2 mm, ovate. Petal limb c. 6 mm, ½ divided, claw c. 8 mm, auricles prominent, obtuse at apex. Carpophore 6-7 mm, glabrous. Capsule 7-8 mm, ovoid, about as long as the carpophore, included in the calyx.

    Type: Hab. in montibus persiae prope Isfahan, Aucher pl. exs. no. 431 (Holo.: G-Boiss.).

    Very similar to the preceding species but differing in the calyx and absence of glandular hairs on the pedicels and vegetative parts. S. persica is distributed in N. Afghanistan and Iran and ends its range in N. W. Pakistan.
