Plant up to 30 cm tall with a branched woody base and decumbent to erect stems, with dense indumentum of white eglandular hairs. Leaves 8-20 x 1-2 mm, linear; pubescent, apex acute, base sessile. Bracts similar to cauline leaves, smaller in size. Flowers solitary or 3 in a dichasium. Pedicel 2-3 mm. Calyx mm, cylindrical or cylindrical-clavate in fruits, pubescent with a few glandular hairs. Petal limb partially exserted, claw glabrous at base, auricled. Coronal scales denticulate at the top. Carpophore c. 15 mm, glabrous. Styles 3, glabrous. Capsule 12-13 mm, ovoid, included in the calyx.
Type: N.W. Pakistan, Chitral, Turikho river, 9000', 23.5.1958, J. D. A. Stainton 2505 (iso. RAW; G).
Distribution: Endemic to Chitral.
Resembles S. moorcroftiana in fades but differs in its longer calyx, pink petals and the eglandular hairs on the vegetative parts.
