Silene bipartita Boiss.
Annual. Stems ascending to ± decumbent, whitish, pubescent to pilose, eglandular. Leaves 10-25 x 1.5-8 mm, obovate-spathulate or oblong-lanceolate to oblong-linear, upper leaves often linear-lanceolate. Inflorescence few-flowered. Calyx 11-19 mm, cylindrical, clavate in fruit, pubescent, teeth ovate, ciliate.
Petals pink-purplish-white, limb bilobed into linear lobes. Coronal scales oblanceolate, obtuse. Carpophore exceeding the capsule length. Seeds c. 1 mm broad, reniform with, winged or deeply grooved at the back face plane or minutely to tubercled.
Fl. Per.: March-April.
Type: Described from N. W. Africa.
Distribution: Mediterranean area, N. Iraq, Palestine, Arabia, Syrian desert, Turkey.
Uncommon. Perhaps under-collected. Aitchison (in note) mentions it as common in cultivated areas.
