Up to 50 cm tall. Stem I or more from the base. Root globose, C. I cm in diameter. Stem and branches glabrous, reddish-brown when dry. Leaves deciduous, 2-3-pinnate; lower leaves c. 10 cm long; upper shorter, pinnatisect; segments shorter, less than 5 mm long, 0.5-I mm broad; no leaves at the fruiting stage. Involucre of 5-6 white margined linear bracts. Rays 6-12. Involucel of 5-6 white membranous linear bractlets. Pedicels 10-15, 2-3 times longer than the fruits. Fruit ovoid, 1.5 mm long, smooth, base cordate; ridges obscure; vittae minute to obscure. Inner seed face sulcate.
Type: Without any indication of locality, Aitchison (K).
Distribution: Himalayas.
A common plant in Swat, Hazara, Chitral and Kashmir from 2-3000 m.
