Perennial, 30-50 cm high, with fibrous roots. Stems 1-2, branched in the upper part, very loosely villous, sometimes a little flaccid. Basal leaves with a long petiole, blade subreniform, 5-10 cm wide, loosely hairy on both sides, tripartite to the base with a lanceolate central and deeply bifid lateral segments, interior lobe of lateral segments bifid or deeply bidentate again, stem leaves subsessile or sessile, sometimes divided only to a lesser degree. Flowers yellow, 20-22 mm in diameter. Peduncle densely strigulose in its upper part. Sepals patent, ovate to elliptic, densely villous, 5-6 x 2-4 mm. Petals obovate-cuneate, with undulate margin, nearly as wide as long. Receptacle glabrous. Achenes arranged in an ovoid to oblong head, inflated, ± 2 mm in diameter, glabrous, style 0.7-0.8 mm long, slightly curved, rarely almost hooked.

This species is quite distinct in its ternate leaves. The lateral segments are further 2-partite.
