Pseudelephantopus spicatus

Perennial herbs, rigid, pubescent. Leaves alternate and basal, simple, pinnately veined. Heads sessile, homogamous, discoid, collected in head-like clusters, spicately arranged. Involucre oblong, compressed; bracts dry and stiff, few, 2-seriate, outer ones shorter. Receptacle naked. Corolla cleft on one side, 5-lobed, lobes spreading. Base of anthers obtuse. Style arms subulate. Achenes truncate, 10-ribbed. Pappus bristles slender, persistent, unequal.

Two species in Central and South America and the West Indies. Introduced to the Old World tropics, one species naturalized in tropical Asia.
