Short-lived perennial herbs, glabrate; pubescence of minute simple hairs. Leaves solitary or subequal paired, simple, subentire, petiolate. Inflorescences solitary flowers or few- to several-flowered fascicles in branch forks, sometimes appearing axillary. Flowers radially symmetric, 5-merous; calyx cupular, apically subtruncate; corolla yellow, broadly campanulate, the lobes recurved; filaments inserted at the top of the corolla tube and adnate to the base of limb, awl-shaped, basally broadened with ascending projections, anthers ovate, dorsifixed, cordate, dehiscing longitudinally; ovary 2-locular. Fruit a red, juicy globose berry; fruiting pedicel pendulous; seeds numerous, discoid; embryo coiled and subperipheral.
