    Erect herbs to 1.5 m tall, sparingly pubescent with short, simple hairs. Leaves simple, subentire, ovate, 7-40 cm long, apically acuminate, basally obtuse or acuminate and narrowed into the petiole, membranous, glabrate. Inflorescences few-flowered axillary fascicles; peduncle wanting; pedicels 5 mm long. Flowers with calyx 2.5-3 mm long, glabrous, cupular, apically truncate, with five minute points, not splitting; corolla yellow waxy or shiny, glabrous outside, broadly campanulate, 3-6 mm long, 6 mm across, lobed 1/4 way down, the lobes recurved; filaments 2.5 mm long, each with 2 teeth or umbos just above the point of insertion, adnate to the corolla tube a short distance above the insertion; anthers deltoid-oblong, pale yellow, 1 mm long; ovary glabrous. Berry subglobose or ellipsoidal, red, shiny, juicy; calyx not accrescent; seeds pale yellow, discoid, favose, 1.7 mm across.
