Perennial herbs, 45-90 cm tall; stems erect, sparingly branched, densely pubescent with eglandular hairs. Leaves broadly ovate to cordate, 6-15 long, 4-10 cm wide, apically short acuminate, basally cordate, entire or with a few indistinct teeth, densely pubescent; petiole 2-5 cm long, villous. Pedicel 1.5 cm long. Flower with calyx broadly campanulate, 7-9 mm long; corolla yellow, spotted in the throat, 1.2-2 cm long; filaments and anthers blue-purple, anthers 3-4 mm long. Berry yellow, 2-3 cm across; fruiting calyx green, ovoid, 2.5-4 cm across, with 5-10 weak angles, copiously pubescent; seeds yellowish, discoid, 1.75-2 mm across.

This species can be recognized by its overall, even pubescence, its large anthers, berries, and fruiting calyces. Native of South America, naturalized in many countries and sometimes cultivated for its edible berries. Taiwan, in disturbed uplands.
