Solanum capsicastrum Link ex Schauer
Glabrous shrubs 0.5-2 m tall. Leaves unequal-paired, major leaves entire, elliptic to oblong, sometimes broad, 4-9 cm long, 2-3.5 cm wide, apically rounded, basally attenuate and decurrent on petiole and stem; petiole 1-1.5 cm, winged by leaf bases; minor leaves broad and rounded, 1.5-3 cm long, 1.2-2.2 cm wide, subsessile, caducous 2-3 nodes below the plant apex. Inflorescences leaf opposed, short scorpoid racemes, often subumbellate; peduncle short, unbranched, later with conspicuous pedicel scars; pedicel 5-12 mm; calyx constricted at base and just below the lobes, 2-2.5 mm long, the lobes deltoid, 1 mm long, minutely ciliolate; corolla white, 3.5-4.5 mm long, lobed 3/4 way; filaments short; anthers stout, 1-1.5 mm long; ovary glabrous. Berry orange, globose, slightly 2-lobed, 7-12 mm across; fruiting pedicel erect, 0.8-1.4 cm; seeds yellow or tan, reniform-discoid, 2-3 mm across, margins thickened.

Native of Mexico and Central America. Taiwan, naturalized and cultivated as a hedge.
