Much branched, unarmed, herbaceous vines to 3 m long, villous overall with elongate, many-celled simple hairs more than 2 mm. Leaves solitary, elliptic or lyrate, 3-11 cm long, 2-6 cm wide, apically acuminate, basally cordate or hastate, entire or 3-5 -lobed or -parted; petiole 1-3 cm long. Inflorescences axillary, extra-axillary, or appearing terminal, few- to many- flowered panicles; peduncle 2-4 cm long; pedicel 0.8-1.5 cm long. Flower with calyx 1.5-2.5 mm long, sparsely pubescent, the lobes rounded; corolla blue-purple or white, 10 mm long, the lobes elliptic-lanceolate, 2 mm long, usually reflexed, apically puberulent; filaments 0.8-1 mm, anthers free, oblong, 2.8-3.2 mm long; ovary glabrous. Berry red or red-black, globose, 7-9 mm across; fruiting pedicel sparsely pubescent, usually curved; seeds discoid, 1.5 mm across, reticulate.

Distributed in eastern and southern China, Indo-China, Japan including Ryukyu Islands, and Korea. Taiwan, recorded in low elevation, very common.
