Perennial herbs, 80-150 cm tall, sparsely arachnoid pubescent or glabrescent. Upper surface of leaves glandular-punctate and sparsely arachnoid puberulous or glabrescent, lower surface densely gray or yellowish arachnoid pubescent; basal and lowermost leaves short petiolate, blade ovate, 3-5(-6)×2.5-4(-5) cm, 2-pinnatisect, segments 3 or 4 pairs, lobes linear-lanceolate or linear, 3-6×2-3 mm; middle cauline leaves subsessile, ovate-elliptic, ovate-orbiculate or suborbiculate, 1.5-2.5×0.1-0.2 cm, acute, margins revolute; bracts 3-5-lobed or undivided, lobes and undivided bracts lanceolate or linear-lanceolate. Inflorescences narrowly to broadly paniculate. Heads numerous, dense, ovoid or ellipsoid-ovoid, 1-1.5 mm in diam., involucral bracts sparsely pubescent or glabrescent. Outer florets 1-3. Central florets 2-5. Achenes oblong. Fl. and fr. Aug-Oct.
