Perennial suffrutescent erect herbs with long stoloniferous rhizomes. Stems terete, 50-90 cm tall, villose, branching upward. Radical leaves withering at anthesis. Cauline leaves distinctly 3-nerved, upper surface scabrous, lower surface densely villose, glandular punctate, more densely so on veins; middle leaves 4-10 cm long, 1.5-4 cm broad, ovate-oblong to oblong-lanceolate, apex acuminate or attenuate acuminate, base sharply narrowed, attenuate-cuneate, subsessile or short petiolate, margins serrate with 4-8 pairs of shallow teeth; upper leaves smaller. Heads few to numerous in tight or loose corymbs, 1-1.5 cm across, peduncle 3-15 mm long. Involucre campanulate to hemispheric, 4.5-5.5 mm tall, 5-6 mm across, bracts in 3 or 4 series, green or purplish, herbaceous, somewhat scarious, 1-nerved adaxially, narrowly lanceolate, apex obtuse to acute, entire, tomentose outside, margins usually ciliolate, inner bracts gradually longer 4-5 mm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, outer bracts 1.7-3 mm long, 0.8-1.2 mm wide. Ray florets 12-15 in one row, ligules white, 4-8 mm long, 1-2 mm wide. Disc florets yellow, 4.5 mm long. Pappus dirty white or reddish, 4-5 mm long at maturity. Achenes lanceolate-obovate, compressed, pale brown, 2-3 mm long, 0.7-1.2 mm wide, sericeous. Fl. Aug-Nov. Chromosome number, 2n = 18, 27, 28 (Soejima & Peng, Bot. Bull. Acad.
