ILAN: Shenmazennshan to Nanhupeishan, Peng 5726. MIAOLI: Tapachienshan, Peng 8515. TAICHUNG: Chika Lodge to east peak of Hsuehshan, Peng 9636; Taoshan, Peng 12051. NANTOU: Kuankao to Patungkuan, Peng 8126. KAOHSIUNG: Kuanshan, Chung 1044.

    Endemic; alpine meadow.

Based mainly on variation in pappus length and habit, Kitamura (1942) published a second species, H. pinanense, which was recognized in first edition of the Flora of Taiwan. A careful examination of numerous specimens collected from Taiwan revealed that those characters vary continuously. Mori (1937) published H. morii var. tsugitakaensis, characterized by its dwarf habit. This taxon is no more than an alpine form of H. morii. In our opinion, only one variable species exists in Taiwan.
