About 35-50 species in Eurasia and North America, 5 in the FSU. C. calceolus L. is found in the European regions of the FSU, the Caucasus, Siberia (central and southern regions) and the Far East, C. guttatum Sw. in the central regions of Russia, Siberia and the Far East, C. macranthon Sw. in the southern European part of Russia, in Siberia and the Far East, C. ventricosum Sw. in the southern part of the Volga River basin, West Siberia and the Far East and C. yatabeanum Makino in the Far East (Kamchatka and the Komandorski and Kuril Islands). There are no endemics, all occuring in adjacent countries. C. macranthon is perhaps the most decorative.
