Trees to 20 m tall, evergreen. Branchlets glabrous. Petiole 1-2 cm; leaf blade ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 4.5-11 × 1.5-4.5 cm, abaxially greenish and glabrous or midvein and axil of veins
with yellowish brown stellate hairs, adaxially brightly green, base rounded to broadly cuneate, margin hispidulous, apex narrowly acuminate; secondary veins 9-12 on each side of
midvein, adaxially inconspicuous. Cupule cupular, ca. 5 × 10 mm, enclosing 1/4-1/3 of nut; bracts ovate, ca. 1 mm, grayish tomentose. Nut brown, narrowly ellipsoid, 1.5-2 × ca. 0.9 cm,
glabrous or apex slightly pubescent; scar ca. 3 mm in diam., slightly raised; stylopodium short. Fl. Apr-May, fr. Oct.
Mixed mesophytic forests; 100-1300 m. Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan [Laos, Thailand, Vietnam].
