Trees 3-10 m tall, andromonoecious. Branches with dense, flat, recurved prickles. Leaves 2- or 3-pinnately compound, with a pair of accessory leaflets at each division of rachis; petiole ca. 35 cm, glabrous, somewhat prickly; petiolules 5-10 mm; leaflets 5-17 per pinna, ovate to narrowly ovate, 8-11 × 4-6 cm, papery to subleathery, abaxially glaucous, adaxially green, both surfaces glabrous, secondary veins 11-12 pairs, base subcordate, slightly oblique, margin mucronate, apex long acuminate. Inflorescence a terminal panicle of umbels, armed; primary axis to 50 cm; ultimate axes with a terminal umbel of bisexual flowers and 1 to several lateral umbels of male flowers; bracts lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 12-14 mm; umbels 17-45-flowered; pedicels 6-8 mm, pubescent. Ovary 5-carpellate; styles 5, basally united, apically free. Fruit globose, 4-5 mm in diam.; styles persistent, free arms recurved. Fl. Aug-Sep, fr. Sep-Oct.
