Slender annual or biennial herbs with alternate leaves. Flowers small, axillary, pedicellate, the uppermost racemose. Calyx 5-partite. Corolla tube shortly cylindical, throat with 5 scales; lobes ± spreading. Stamens 5, included. Ovary deeply 4-lobed. Nutlets 4 or fewer, compressed dorsally.
3-4 species, mainly China, but also Japan, Afghanistan, India. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
