Perennial herbs. Leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate. Flowers in few-flowered dichasia. Calyx campanulate, ± inflated in fruit. Calyx 5, toothed. Petals 5, bifid; coronal scales present. Stamens 10. Styles 3. Carpophore present. Fruit indehiscent somewhat fleshy, drying when mature.
Monotypic genus, widely distributed in Europe, Asia & N.W. Africa.
