Annual, very similar to Arenaria serpyllifolia, but stems usually scabrid on one side only (though this is not a constant character), leaves larger, up to 17x7 mostly obovate or ovate-elliptic, mucronulate, cuneate; inflorescence usually few-flowered; sepals 3-5 mm, lanceolate, acuminate (1-) 3-nerved; capsule often as long as the sepals; seeds without prominent tubercles on the back.

Type: Described from ‘Neelgherries’.
Distribution: Common in N.W. Himalaya, from Chitral and Kashmir eastward to Assam.
A variable species closely related to Arenaria serpyllifolia, but distinguished by its usually obovate, subpetiolate leaves, few-flowered dichasia and stems scabrid on one side only.
