  • Bupleurum olympicum var.? aitchisoni Boiss.

    Decumbent, main stem abbreviated; branches many from the base, up to 15 cm long. Basal leaves crowded, linear, 2-3 cm long, veins 5-9, bases amplexi¬caul, apex acute; upper leaves linear to lanceolate, 1-2 cm long, veins 7-11, bases amplexicaul, subcordate, apex shortly acuminate. Involucral bracts 1-3, lanceolate to oval, unequal, veins 5-9, apex shortly acuminate. Rays 2-4, up to 1 cm long. Involucel of 5 linear bractlets, veins 3, as long or slightly longer than the flowering umbellet. Petals yellow, each with a broad resin canal. Fruit ridges prominent; furrows 3-vittate.

    Type: Kurram, Sikaram, 12-14000 ft., Aitchison 929 (Holotype, K; Isotype, GH).

    Distribution: Afghanistan, W. Pakistan.

    A plant of high altitudes in the northern regions in W. Pakistan. Variety caudatum of this species has been collected in Lahul, Rotang Pass, India but has not been reported from W. Pakistan. It differs from B. aitchisonii in the shape of the upper leaves and the length of the bractlets.
