  • Ruta gilesii Hemsl.

    25-40 cm tall, branching usually from the woody base. Stems and branches greenish-yellow; glabrous and glandular, sometimes with few to many short spreading hairs above. Leaves few and distantly placed, 8-19 x 1-2 mm, becoming smaller upwards, linear to linear-lanceolate, obtuse, base tapering, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, with dark punctate glands. Inflorescence corymbose; bracts lanceolate. Sepals 1.5 mm, broadly elliptical, concave, glandular. Filaments about half the length of the petals, expanded below, hairy inside. Ovary 3(-4)-locular, densely glandular, shortly white pubescent. Style thick, 3 mm long, glabrous to pilose below. Capsule 3-4 mm broad. Seeds 4 per locule.

    Lectotype: Gilgit, South of Hindu Kush, 4500', Giles 542 (K).

    Not a common plant; known only from the Gilgit area in the N. of Pakistan. The only species found here with 3(-4)-locular ovary.
