Annual up to 32 cm.. Stem and branches covered with subpatent to appressed hairs. Basal leaves oblanceolate to linear-lanceolate, petiolate, including lamina 8-23 x 3-8 mm, covered on both surfaces with stiff hairs arising from a tuberculate base. Cauline leaves sessile, uppermost smaller. Fruiting pedicel stout, 1.5-2 mm thick at base, erect or slightly recurved, up to 10 mm long. Calyx lobes c. 3.5 mm long, linear, upto 12 mm in fruit. Corolla blue or shades of it, c. 3 mm long, campanulate. Fruit ovoid, 5-8 mm long. Nutlets 4, heteromorphic, larger pair decurrent on pedicel, oblong, wing bearing up to 9 free appendages; appendages up to 1 mm long, base dilated or not, apex glochidiate; smaller nutlet decurrent, with fewer longer appendages confluent at base, glochidiate. Dorsal middle area longitudinally carinate to tuberculate or with well-developed appendages.
