Stems to 45 cm tall, simple, glabrous, sparsely woolly apically. Radical leaves long petiolate, reniform, 2.3-5.5(-6)×3.5-5.5 cm, apex subtruncate to rounded, base distinctly cordate, margins irregularly mucronulate-denticulate, upper surface green, lower surface pale, glabrous on both surfaces; petiole 8-10 cm long, not winged, clasping at base; cauline leaves few, 1 or 2. Inflorescence simple racemes. Heads 5-11; peduncle to 9 mm long, subtended by lanceolate, bract-like leaves 8-12 mm long. Involucre tubular, 1×0.4 cm, bracts 5, linear, puberulous. Ray florets 2 or 3; corolla 20×1.5-2.4 mm, 3-lobed. Achenes glabrous. Pappus 4 mm long; bristles unequal, tawny. Aug.-Oct.
